Dashcams are great tools for anybody on the road lot. A good dashcam serves many purposes. But, when it comes down to it, it’s all about keeping both you and your wallet safe.
That being said, there are hundreds of dashcams out there. Unfortunately, finding the right one without spending a fortune is easier said than done.
Today, we want to review a dashcam that comes with all the basic features you need. This is without costing you an arm and a leg.
Garmin 46 Dashcam
The Garmin 46 Dashcam is a high-quality unit at an affordable price. It’s not the most advanced unit, but it comes with all the basics you need.
Who Is This Product For?
The Garmin 46 Dashcam is for anybody who needs a simple and relatively affordable dashcam. For example, a dashcam is required to keep your insurance premiums down if you need evidence of a collision.
Whether to ensure that you aren’t held liable for an accident that wasn’t your fault, to protect from theft, or to stop fraud, a unit such as the Garmin 46 Dashcam can come in very handy.
The Garmin 46 Dashcam comes with a 2” display, intuitive controls, an adhesive mounting arm, and a power cord. However, no SD card is included, and you will have to purchase this separately, as far as we can tell.
Overview of Features
The Garmin 46 Dashcam is a high-quality dashcam that is reasonably priced. In addition, it has some excellent features worth talking about, such as the wide 140° field of vision.
This means that it should capture the most relevant details in case of an accident without cutting anything out.
Moreover, the Garmin 46 Dashcam records everything in HD 1080P. Of course, having high-quality visuals is essential. With 1080P recording, this dashcam should easily spot and record details, such as license plates.
However, one thing that needs mentioning is that the Garmin 46 Dashcam does not feature night vision capabilities. The recording quality at night is decent, but it doesn’t compare to models that actually have night vision. Yet, the Garmin 46 Dashcam does have other features.
One such feature is the collision and accident detection feature. If there is an accident or collision, the Garmin 46 Dashcam will automatically record and save the footage; you don’t have to do anything.
Another benefit is that this unit has a built-in GPS, so when the incident detection activates, you will also have the exact location of where the incident occurred.
Although the cables are sold separately, the Garmin 46 Dashcam has a parking monitor mode. When your vehicle is parked and turned off, the camera will record and save footage whenever motion is detected inside or in front of your car. That said, the motion sensor won’t work if people are beside or behind the vehicle.
The Garmin 46 Dashcam has a 12V cigarette port charger and a second USB slot. This means that you can use the 12-volt power port in your car to charge your phone while using this dashcam.
Moreover, it comes with an adhesive mounting arm that is easy to adjust for position. Some people may not like the adhesive mounting system, but it works well.
The Garmin 46 Dashcam has other features designed to keep you safe while on the road. This includes a forward collision warning, so you’ll get alerts if you’re too close to a vehicle.
On that note, it also has “go” alerts to alert you when traffic in front has started moving again. This unit can also provide lane departure warnings if you drift off course. Finally, to avoid getting a ticket, the Garmin 46 Dashcam will also inform you of upcoming red light and speed cameras.
The unit comes with a 2” high-definition LCD display, so it’s easy to see the recorded footage. It also has intuitive controls, and you can use voice control: You can tell it to save video, start or stop audio recording without taking your hands off the wheel.
The Garmin 46 Dashcam is a straightforward model. That said, it does still need to be set up and mounted properly. Here is a link to a quick tutorial video that provides clear setup instructions.
